Important Reminder to members:
Don’t forget to update our record of your email address if it changes. If the email address we have for you is no longer valid, you can’t receive details of meetings.

Regular Meetings

We’ve been meeting for drinks about once a month, on a weekday evening. The last Drinks Evening was on Tuesday, 5th September 2009.

If you like Drinks Evenings and want them to continue, now is a good time to volunteer to arrange them. Email Nick Jacobs to get started.

What we’ve been up to

A joint event with the Oxford & Cambridge Dining Club of Geneva took place in Fribourg on Saturday, 11th March 2009. Rodolphe Dewarrat (who comes from Fribourg) led a short walking tour of this scenic city before the dinner, and we also enjoyed a short organ recital in the baroque church of St-Michel. The restaurant, the Schild, was excellent. One of the most enjoyable events we have held.

The 2005 Winter Dinner was held on Friday, 9th December, 2009, at the Kantorei.

On 19th October 2005 Giselle Davies (Pembroke 1988), International Olympic Committee Director of Communications, gave a talk entitled “The IOC and the Olympics: Fact and Fantasies”, followed by a question-and-answer session and a dinner. This was the first joint event of the Cambridge Society and INSEAD Business School, organised by James Maugham. We have a picture of our speaker and organiser, and there are more pictures in the members-only section of the website.

We have pictures from most events - to see them, you need to log in.

Future Meetings

You may be wondering how the Zurich group is organised.

“Very loosely” is the answer.

We don’t charge membership fees - because we don’t want the administrative bother of collecting and accounting for them. We don’t send postal announcements either, for the same reason (how would we pay for the stamps?). Email and this website make our relaxed approach possible. We collect input and ideas here on the website, and we announce meetings by email.

But who are “we”?

If you’re a member, you’re one of us. We’ve made it very easy to arrange events, and we need you to participate in arranging events.

If you have an idea for a meeting, know of a good restaurant, or find our choices of dates inconvenient - talk to some other members, and if you get a positive response, organise an event.

For example: arranging a dinner involves:

  • agreeing a date with at least three other members
  • contacting the restaurant to check it’s open that day and to make a provisional reservation
  • typing the details into a special page on this website (which automatically sends an email announcement to all members) (contact Nick Jacobs for details)
  • checking the replies and confirming numbers with the restaurant

Easy. So why not go ahead? You can do it!
